It's been awhile!

Ok, so it's been around 3 weeks since I posted last and those three weeks have been hectic! For those of you that don't know, I am expecting our second daughter in June. Well, we have had some issues and complications that resulted in me missing a week of school.  That week preceeded spring break, so I was away from my classroom for two entire weeks. Everything is better now, and the baby is doing just fine. So, with all that said, my thesis had to kindof be put on hold for a little bit.  This week though, we have jumped back into things and the children have really enjoyed the activities we've done.  They got to create a collage of healthy foods by cutting out pictures from magazines. The recreated their own food pyramid from a template that came with materials from the Food Pyramid website.  They have also been very aware of the foods that they are eating both at school and home.  We talk each day about what we all ate the night before and into what food groups those foods would go with.  It amazes me that these 5 year olds are getting so excited about eating healthy.  We've also explored the concept of exercise and the benefits that come with that.  I'm very proud of them and their progress.  I can't wait to see what their post test results are!!!

FINALLY!

I have surveyed my children and have started my low budget curriculum.  I am using materials that I recieved from http://www.mypryamid.gov/. We are focusing on food groups and healthy food choices. They are really loving learning about healthy foods and the ways that they can incorporate them into thier daily food intake.  It's funny to watch them go through the lunch line now and actually think about what they get instead of just grabbing something!
